People Also Ask

People Also Ask is the box of related questions Google shows in the search results, often just below the top listings. Each question expands with a short answer taken from a specific page and a link to the source, and opening one question makes Google add new ones underneath. In everyday use it is called PAA.

The box now appears on a large share of all searches. Google pulls each answer from a page that answers the question clearly and within tight bounds: a short, precise passage under a heading that poses the question itself. The mechanism resembles featured snippets, but the box runs its own selection, so a page can appear in it without sitting in the top three for the keyword.

PAA is also a direct view into search intent. It shows, with Google's own data, which questions people ask around a keyword and where the curiosity moves as more questions unfold. Whole subjects often hide in the box that nobody in a market has covered properly yet.

The format gained value with AI search. Clear questions and answers are exactly the raw material AI Overviews and chatbots build their responses from, and pages that win PAA boxes are often the ones AI services cite. SEO work on the questions pays off in two places at once. How the questions feed into keyword work belongs to the guide on keyword research.
