Glossary

URL

URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator and is the unique address of a page or a resource on the internet. Every page on a website has its own URL, and that address is what browsers, search engines and AI models use when they need to find the content or refer to it.

A URL is built from fixed parts. In https://bonzer.io/glossary/url there is first the protocol, https, the encrypted connection described under HTTP/HTTPS, then the domain, bonzer.io, and last the path pointing at the specific page. Parameters can follow the path, tracking codes or shop filters for instance, and they create duplicates easily, because the same content suddenly lives at several addresses.

In SEO the URL is more than an address. A short, readable path holding the page's main keyword tells both people and search engines what the page covers long before anyone has seen the content. Compare /glossary/url with /index.php?id=4827: a human decodes the first one instantly, the second one takes a click.

Stability counts just as much. The URL is the page's identity in the search index, and backlinks and rankings hang on it. When addresses change in a migration or a new site structure, every old URL needs a redirect to its replacement, or the page starts over from nothing. Building the structure belongs to the guide on URL structure.
