CRO / Conversion Rate Optimization

CRO stands for Conversion Rate Optimization: the discipline of systematically increasing the share of visitors who convert, whether the goal is a purchase, a signup or a booked demo. Because the work happens on traffic that already exists, a higher conversion rate is one of the cheapest routes to more business from a website.

How the discipline works

CRO is empirical. Hypotheses about what slows visitors down get tested against real behavior instead of being settled by instinct. The evidence usually comes from behavioral data such as heatmaps and session recordings, and from funnel analysis showing which step in a flow loses the most people. The proof comes from the A/B test, where traffic is split between the original and a modified version of the same page and the difference in conversion rate decides the winner. The winner becomes the new control, and the cycle starts over.

CRO is often reduced to changing button colors. The discipline reaches considerably deeper: page structure, the order in which arguments appear, friction in forms, and how closely the page matches the search intent behind the visit.

CRO and SEO pull in the same direction

SEO fills the funnel, CRO turns the traffic into customers. They share a foundation: a page that answers search intent precisely converts better, and a clear call to action lifts both the experience and the revenue. For the content half of the discipline there is the guide to CRO in content.
