SEO
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization: the discipline of making a company visible where people look for answers, products and suppliers. It covers two surfaces at once: classic search engines with Google in front, and AI services such as ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI answers. Both reward the website that best deserves to be found.
What the work consists of
Three pillars carry it, and each depends on the others:
- Technical: search engines and AI crawlers have to be able to find, read and index the pages. Speed, structure and clean code sit here.
- Content: the pages have to answer the search intent people arrive with better than competitors do.
- Authority: backlinks and brand mentions from credible sources tell Google and the language models alike that others treat the site as worth trusting.
The first two pillars happen on the site itself and are called on-page SEO; the authority work outside it is off-page SEO.
Why SEO carries more weight than before
When a potential customer asks ChatGPT for the best supplier in a category, the model builds its answer from sources it trusts. Companies with strong content, a healthy technical platform and a credible link profile get found in classic search and cited in AI answers alike. And where paid advertising stops the day the budget does, organic visibility stays and compounds. That is what moved SEO from a tactic to a strategic foundation. The guide to SEO fundamentals takes each pillar in turn.
