Content

Content is everything a website meets its visitors with: text, images, video, product data and interactive elements such as calculators and configurators. In marketing the word also covers the discipline itself, meaning the ongoing work of planning, producing and maintaining that material.

In SEO, content is what search engines judge you on. For a page to rank, its content has to satisfy the search intent behind the query. Someone searching "what is a canonical tag" wants an explanation, while a search for "SEO agency" signals a purchase already in motion, and the format follows the intent, from guides and category texts to cases and product pages.

Quality weighs more than volume. Google rewards content that demonstrates first-hand experience and real expertise, written for people rather than for an algorithm. The criteria behind that assessment are collected under E-E-A-T: experience, expertise, authoritativeness and trustworthiness.

AI search extends the same judgment to a second surface. When ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google's AI Overviews answer a question, the answer is built from content their crawlers have collected, and they cite the pages that explain the topic most clearly. A machine is never impressed by filler, which is why one thorough page can keep working for years across both classic results and AI answers. Building a production that can carry that is the subject of the guide to content marketing.
