SEO Tools
An SEO tool is a program or web service that supplies data and analysis for work with SEO: keywords and search volume, rankings, backlinks, technical errors and competitors' visibility. Tools do not replace professional judgment; they supply the data judgment runs on.
A modern SEO toolbox usually holds several kinds, each solving its own part of the job:
- All-in-one platforms such as Ahrefs and Semrush gather keyword research, rank tracking, link data and competitor analysis in one place.
- Technical crawlers such as Screaming Frog go through a site the way a search engine would and surface broken links, redirect chains and indexing problems.
- Google's own tools, first of all Google Search Console and GA4, which are free and show a site's actual search data straight from the source.
- AI visibility tools, the newest category, measuring how often a brand is mentioned and cited in answers from ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI answers.
Third-party tools measure search volume and rankings from their own databases, so the figures are estimates rather than facts, and two platforms rarely show the same number for the same keyword. The strength lies in comparison: the relations between keywords, pages and competitors hold even when the absolute numbers drift. How the platforms differ, and what marks a well-considered toolbox, belongs to the guide on SEO tools.
