Semantic SEO

Semantic SEO is an approach to SEO that optimizes for meaning and topics rather than for isolated keywords. Instead of one page per search term, a whole subject is covered together with the sub-questions, concepts and connections that belong to it, so search engines and language models can see that the field is understood in depth.

The approach mirrors how search engines themselves developed. With language models such as BERT, Google moved from matching strings to interpreting meaning, so two different phrasings of the same need can surface the same page. Google also ties content to entities, meaning well-defined things like brands, people and products, and uses the relationships between them to judge what a page is actually about.

Semantic work therefore maps a subject rather than a keyword list: related keywords grouped by search intent, topic clusters with a thorough pillar page and supporting pages, and internal links binding them together. The goal is topical authority, being one of the places where a subject is covered best.

The same structure is the shortest route to visibility in AI search. ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI answers assemble their responses from sources that cover a topic precisely and coherently, and they rarely cite a thin page built around a single keyword. Turning the approach into a concrete content plan is what the guide to semantic SEO does.
