CTA / Call to Action
A call to action, shortened to CTA, is the button or link that asks a visitor to take one specific action. The classics are familiar: "Buy now", "Book a demo", "Sign up for the webinar". The CTA is where interest becomes a conversion, which makes it one of the most consequential elements on a page.
What separates a strong CTA from a weak one
Specificity. "Get your free SEO analysis" states exactly what happens on click, where "Read more" promises nothing at all. Visibility matters as much: color and contrast that set the element apart, and placement where the decision actually forms, typically just after a convincing argument and again at the foot of the page. A CTA also works best alone, since every competing request on the same screen costs clicks.
Wording carries more weight than most people expect, which is why the CTA is among the most tested elements in conversion work. The effect varies by audience, and rules of thumb lose to data from a page's own visitors.
CTAs and search
Traffic from SEO often lands on content pages far from the cart, and that is where the CTA decides whether a reader becomes a lead. The wording follows the visitor's stage of consideration: a newsletter on the broad pages, a demo or an analysis on landing pages closer to purchase. The guide to CRO in content treats the wording as part of the content rather than a decoration on top of it.
